Privacy Policy
This is the privacy policy for Calc 4 Kids ("we," "us," "our"). We try to keep this short and in plain English because nobody reads legalese.
What we collect
When you fill out our donation form, we collect:
- Your first and last name
- Your email address
- Your mailing address (so we can send you the prepaid mailer)
- The type of calculator you're donating
We also collect basic, anonymous traffic data through Cloudflare Web Analytics (page views, country, browser type) so we know whether anyone is actually visiting the site. No cookies, no personal tracking.
What we do with it
- Use your address to physically mail you a prepaid envelope.
- Use your email to send you a confirmation when we receive your calculator and a one-line update when it reaches its new home.
- Occasionally email you about Calc 4 Kids — partnership programs, school donation updates, or product news. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to anyone, ever.
- We don't share your information with marketers or third parties for advertising.
- We don't use your address for anything other than mailing you a poly mailer.
Who handles the data behind the scenes
We use a small set of standard service providers to run the site. They each see only what they need to do their job:
- Formspree — receives and stores your form submissions so we can email you.
- Cloudflare — hosts the website and provides anonymous traffic analytics.
- USPS / Pirate Ship — used to print and mail the prepaid envelope.
- Email service — used to send you the confirmation and update emails.
Your rights
You can email us at hello@calc4kids.org at any time and ask us to:
- Show you what data we have on you
- Update or correct that data
- Delete your record entirely
We'll act on the request within a few business days.
Terms of Service
Who we are
Calc 4 Kids is a for-profit mission-driven business that accepts donated graphing calculators, refurbishes them, and redistributes them. Roughly 15% of every batch we receive is donated directly to Title I schools and partner programs at no cost. The remaining 85% are refurbished and resold at deeply discounted prices to families and learners who need affordable access.
We are not a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations of calculators are not tax-deductible.
What happens when you donate a calculator
- You fill out the form with your address and the model of calculator you're donating.
- We send you a free poly mailer with a prepaid USPS return label.
- You drop the calculator inside, seal it, and leave it for your mail carrier.
- Once we receive the calculator, ownership transfers from you to Calc 4 Kids. We may refurbish and resell it, donate it directly to a school or student, or use it for parts to repair other calculators.
- You will not receive any payment, store credit, or tax document in exchange for your donation.
- We may email you a one-line update when your calculator has been refurbished and reached its new home.
What we accept
Any working or semi-working graphing or scientific calculator: TI-83, TI-84, TI-89, TI-Nspire, Casio FX series, HP graphing calcs, and basic scientific calculators. Cracked screens and missing batteries are fine. We do not accept cash, gift cards, or non-calculator items.
Things we don't promise
- We don't guarantee a specific timeline for mailing the envelope. We aim for 1–2 weeks during launch and 3–5 business days at steady state.
- We don't promise that any individual calculator will be donated vs. resold — those decisions are made in aggregate at the batch level.
- We can't return a donated calculator once it's in our possession.
Limitation of liability
Calc 4 Kids provides this service "as is." To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or our donation program. Our total liability to you under any circumstance is limited to the value of any calculator you've donated to us.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Charleston County, South Carolina.
Changes to these terms
We may update this page from time to time. The "Effective" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent version. Material changes will be communicated via email to anyone who's signed up to donate.
